Arlington County's Oldest Hardware Store
Since 1923, Virginia Hardware Company has provided supplies, tools, knowledge, and friendship to the many residents that have walked through their doors again and again. The Goldman’s originally opened the store in Rosslyn. In 1963 the store was moved to its’ present location where it was run by Harry Goldman. Al Goldman took over in 1985 after his father passed away. About this time, Ricardo Iglesias came to work for the Goldman’s. In 1987, Ricardo took over ownership of the store and is very excited about continuing the tradition.
I asked what the key to this store's success is and Ricardo stated, "The main reason people like to come here is the service. We offer advice, professional service, and experience." If they don't have what you are looking for they will make every effort to locate it. You will also find a wonderful selection of vintage and hard to find items. Try going to one of those large national warehouse chains and get authentic cast iron shudder hinges! "We love to here people say, ‘you’re the only one who has it!’ That is what we are here for." Exclaims Ricardo.
I was impressed with their attitude towards customer service. I asked what their slogan or company motto was and was told, "We say no to nothing!" This is rare attitude today and one you should defiantly go and experience it first hand. Below is a list of services that are offered, many you might not think available in such a store:
